Not all Cryochambers work the same way and understanding the difference matters if you’re serious about outcomes, safety or investing in equipment.
The Nitrogen Myth
Liquid nitrogen boils at -196°C (-321°F), absorbing heat to cool the chamber’s breathable air.
Here’s the part most people get wrong: nitrogen never mixes with the air you breathe. It cools that air through a heat exchanger, then stays separate.
The result: Genuine extreme cold, without nitrogen in the atmosphere you’re standing in.
A Cryosauna (exposes the body, not the head, to direct cold) is the only design where clients can be exposed to nitrogen vapour directly. It’s a distinction sales reps often blur. Nitrogen-based Cryochambers are just as safe for participants as electric Cryochambers.
What About Electric Cryochambers?
The technology isn’t new – electric Cryochambers have been around for 30+ years.
Their real advantage is practicality, depending on your facility and setup. But despite decades on the market, almost all of the research behind Whole Body Cryotherapy still uses nitrogen-based systems.
Electric chambers can be effective, but not all systems perform equally. Always trial before investing.
