Are You Treating Cryotherapy Clients or Just Cooling Them Down?

Too often, Cryotherapy clinics respond the same way to every client: Pain? Inflammation? Recovery?

  • Step into the Cryochamber right away.
  • Add a localised treatment if the client reports a specific area of pain.
  • Maybe throw in cold compression.
  • Stack as much into one session, the more the better!

But here’s the truth, effective recovery isn’t about doing more, it’s about doing what’s right in that context. Thermal therapy should be prescribed with reasoning, not routine.

Ask yourself: What does this person’s body need right now and which therapy supports that need without adding unnecessary stress?

Key Considerations:

???? Immune Health – Determines frequency, intensity and modality. A weaker immune system may need gentler, shorter or less frequent sessions.

???? Training Load and Timing – Recovery strategies differ for pre-season, mid-season or general wellness clients. Endurance athletes often complete high-volume training on consecutive days without scheduled rest days in between. Your strategy should be tailored to the context, prioritising the client’s immediate needs. If Plan A isn’t feasible, know what the next best approach is.

At AdvancedCryo we have worked with many elite athletes such as Manchester United’s first team players from 2022 – 2024. Our first questions were always:

  • What was your last session – match, recovery / tactical or high-performance?
  • When is your next competitive match?
  • How are you feeling?
  • Any inflammation or fresh injuries?

Those answers dictated timing, type of thermal therapy and focus of the session, ensuring precision, not guesswork.

Remember that more isn’t always better. Different cold therapies serve different purposes and often work best at separate phases, or in contrast with heat, rather than stacked together.

Start thinking like a CryoSpecialist with context, timing and physiology at the centre of every decision.
